How E-Waste EPR works

From obligation to certificate to filing — in plain language.

1

What it covers

Electrical and electronic equipment listed in the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022 — 106 items across seven product groups, with solar PV modules handled separately.

2

Who is obligated

Producers — manufacturers, importers and own-brand sellers of listed equipment — register on the CPCB e-waste EPR portal and receive recycling targets.

3

Who generates credits

Registered e-waste recyclers generate EPR certificates for e-waste they recycle. Registered refurbishers generate refurbishing certificates.

4

How compliance is shown

Producers acquire certificates to meet their targets and file returns on the portal. Certificate prices sit in a band of 30–100% of the environmental compensation rate.

E-Waste EPR Credits: questions, answered

What are e-waste EPR credits?

E-waste EPR credits are the EPR certificates generated by registered recyclers on the CPCB e-waste portal. Producers acquire them to meet their E-Waste EPR targets.

Is there a price range for e-waste EPR certificates?

Yes. The 2024 amendment set a band of 30% to 100% of the environmental compensation rate. Check the current rules before agreeing a price.

Who can sell e-waste EPR credits on EPRSetu?

Only e-waste recyclers and refurbishers registered on the CPCB portal, after we verify their GSTIN, company identity and registration.

Does EPRSetu transfer the certificates?

No. Transfer happens only on the authorised CPCB system.

Why use EPRSetu instead of finding a counterparty yourself?
