How Battery Waste EPR works
From obligation to certificate to filing — in plain language.
What it covers
All batteries, whatever their chemistry, shape, size or use — including batteries sold inside equipment and vehicles.
Who is obligated
Producers — manufacturers, importers and own-brand sellers — register on the CPCB battery EPR portal and receive collection and recycling targets.
Who generates credits
Registered battery recyclers and refurbishers generate EPR certificates for the battery quantities they recycle or refurbish.
How compliance is shown
Producers acquire certificates per battery category and file returns on eprbattery.cpcb.gov.in. Rules also set minimum recycled content in new batteries from FY 2027-28.

Battery EPR Credits: questions, answered
What are battery EPR credits?
Battery EPR credits are EPR certificates generated by registered battery recyclers and refurbishers on the CPCB battery portal (eprbattery.cpcb.gov.in). Producers acquire them to meet targets.
Which batteries are covered?
All chemistries, grouped as portable, automotive, industrial and electric vehicle batteries.
Who can sell battery EPR credits on EPRSetu?
Only recyclers and refurbishers registered on the CPCB battery portal, after EPRSetu verifies them.
Does EPRSetu transfer the certificates?
No. Transfer happens only on the authorised CPCB system.
Why use EPRSetu instead of finding a counterparty yourself?
One desk verifies both sides, sends one clear rate within 24 hours and closes the deal within 48 — with no public listings, so your prices and volumes stay private.
